About Goliad State Park and Historic Site

 

Located in Goliad County in southeastern Texas, Goliad State Park and Historic Site preserves significant elements of early Texas history as well as natural landscapes along the San Antonio River. The park covers over 300 acres and features the reconstructed presidio chapel, the birthplace of Texas as the location of the first mass held in Texas, and the Mission Nuestra Señora del Espíritu Santo de Zúñiga, originally established in the 18th century. Visitors to the park enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including hiking trails through native woodlands and river habitats, picnicking along shaded areas, and camping with facilities ranging from primitive to developed. The site also offers fishing and paddling opportunities in the San Antonio River, enhancing its appeal to water enthusiasts.
